Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, a five-star resort, spa and golf club in Fayetteville, contracted Penn E&R to completely redesign its water supply and treatment system. The resort needed about 250,000 gallons of potable water a day for its guests plus another 250,000 for irrigation purposes. The resort failed to meet those needs due to the low pH and high iron concentrations in the area’s raw water. Penn E&R designed and built a virtually operator-independent water supply and treatment system to convert soluble iron ions into insoluble iron hydroxide. Because a disruption in water supply could be devastating to the resort, the project was completed on an accelerated schedule for four months.
